ABOUT

About the house

Eight minutes by car from Miyazaki Airport, and eight minutes from the sea at Aoshima. This is a whole house for families and groups, surrounded by the subtropical greenery of southern Kyushu.

Walk down to the water in the morning. Spend the afternoon at Aoshima, the most popular beach in Miyazaki. In the evening, head into the Nishitachi nightlife district or simply open a bottle together in the large living room. Children can sleep side by side on futons in the tatami room — the kind of night a family trip is remembered for.

It suits travellers who would rather keep house in Miyazaki for a few days than check into a hotel.

At a glance

  • The entire house is yours — up to 8 guests
  • Self check-in with a door code

  • A really good place to stay. Replies came quickly, so we felt at ease from the very first message. They looked after us well during the stay and even helped us decide where to go for lunch and dinner, which was a big help. The rooms were clean and plenty big enough, and we were able to take our time. If we get the chance to visit Miyazaki again, we will definitely stay here.

  • The parking is generous and the neighbourhood is quiet, so we could really unwind. The interior has been renovated beautifully and we felt comfortable throughout. The welcome touches and amenities were generous too — a first-aid box and nail clippers, which you rarely find in a hotel. The washing machine comes with detergent, which makes it handy for a longer stay. The house gets good light, and sunbathing on the engawa was lovely.

  • The rooms are spacious and clean with a calm atmosphere — ideal for a family or a group. There is parking as well, so it is especially good if you are travelling by car. If we come to Miyazaki again, this is a place we would want to stay at.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Before you book

This is an older Japanese house that we renovated ourselves, rented out as a whole. It is not a new hotel or a ryokan: it does not have their soundproofing, insulation or on-site staff, and it still feels like the house it has always been. What it gives you instead is a place where your family or group can be together under one roof and live in Miyazaki for a few days.

About insects

The area is green and rural, and depending on the season insects do get inside. We treat for them at every cleaning, but in a house of this age they cannot be shut out completely. Insect-catching supplies are provided. If insects genuinely bother you, or you are hoping for a hotel-like environment, please consider carefully before booking.

Heat and cold

The insulation is not modern. There is air conditioning and a heater, but the house can still feel hot in summer and cold in winter. Bring clothing you can layer. Note that Bedroom 1 and Bedroom 3 have no air conditioning.

Self check-in

There is no front desk and no staff on site. You let yourself in with a door code. There are few street lights nearby, so it gets genuinely dark at night.

A quiet residential street

People live around us, so please keep things quiet during the evening and night — especially by the front door, in the parking area and anywhere outdoors (after 20:00).

MIYAZAKI

Explore Miyazaki

  • Aoshima

The most popular beach in Miyazaki, eight minutes away by car. Good for swimming in summer and for a walk along the shore in every other season.

  • Aoshima Shrine

A shrine on a small island ringed with subtropical palms, known as a place to pray for good relationships. The vermilion buildings against the sea are worth the short walk.

  • Oni no Sentakuita

The "devil's washboard" — bands of wave-cut rock encircling Aoshima, exposed at low tide and designated a national natural monument.

  • Kisakihama

A surf break that hosts international competitions, three minutes away by car. Close enough to check the waves before breakfast.

  • Horikiri Pass and Michi-no-Eki Phoenix

A coastal drive lined with phoenix palms, about 15 minutes away and easy to combine with Aoshima.

  • Miyazaki food

Chicken nanban, charcoal-grilled local chicken, and lettuce-wrapped sushi rolls. For dinner out, the Nishitachi district is about 20 minutes by car.

Takachiho is around two hours away by car. It makes a good day trip, but plan an early start.
